Fundraising Update
THE PEDRO POINT FIREHOUSE
As you may know or have seen, the Firehouse siding project
is complete...or almost.
Through rental income, the PPCA saved enough to cover the cost of the residing bid and to set aside a 20% contingency fund. Unfortunately, we discovered extensive dry rot; and the final cost soared 50% above the initial estimate.
Via a GoFundMe campaign, a reach-out to past tenants and substantial donations from each of the PPCA Board members we were able to cover the costs of almost all the residing renovation. Unfortunately, the 2-3 week project actually stretched out two months because of this past winter's atmospheric rivers during which time we lost two months of revenue; and it nearly drained our checking and savings.
On the good news side, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approved a one-time grant of $10,000 from Measure K funds which will help significantly towards putting the finishing touches on our repairs. However, this grant is based on reimbursement of actually monies spent which leaves a big gap in our ability to fund the final elements of our renovation project: replacing damaged roof tiles, replacing gutters, installing sheet rock and insulation, refinishing the outside deck and garbage storage boxes and replacing our 30-year old heater with a new energy-efficient one. We estimate these costs in excess of $15,000.
Thank you for your continued interest and support of the Pedro Point Firehouse, a historic Coastside landmark and gathering place.
